Nominating a Charity
Eligibility Criteria
Only members of 100 Gay Men For a Cause - YVR are eligible to nominate a charity. There is no proxy voting, and charities cannot nominate themselves.
To be considered, a charity must meet the following criteria:
-
It must be a registered charitable organization.
-
It must have been established for at least one year (no start-ups).
-
It must be verified by the Vancouver Foundation.
-
Its operations must focus on issues of particular concern to gay men and be located in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia.
Notes:
Organizations with a national or international focus may be nominated, provided the request is for a project to be delivered in the Lower Mainland.
All funds must be spent in the Vancouver region.
Single projects, such as plays, movies, novels, or programs, are not typically funded.
Members of 100 Gay Men For a Cause - YVR may nominate up to three charitable organizations for consideration upon joining and at any meeting.
At least one month prior to an event, the steering committee will select three charities, previously verified by the Vancouver Foundation as registered charities.
Once notified of their selection, nominated charities must keep their participation confidential until the meeting.
The selected organization will be ineligible to receive subsequent funds from 100 Gay Men For a Cause - YVR for one year.
The two charities not selected may be nominated again for possible selection for a specified period.
Each charity receives a minimum of $2,500.
All three selected charities may provide brochures at the event and are encouraged to network with members after the selection.
The recipient charity will be requested to present an update on their use of the donation at the next meeting of 100 Gay Men For a Cause - YVR.
100 Gay Men For a Cause - YVR reserves the right to amend these eligibility criteria at any time, without consulting the nominated charities.
